Flagler College placed four players on the All-Peach Belt Conference men's and women's teams, announced on Thursday on the eve of the conference tournaments at the Sea Palms Resort on St. Simons Island, Ga., led by senior Mauro Baez making the men's first team for a third year in a row.

Baez, a native of Argentina, earned his third first-team All-PBC in men's golf. He has six top-10 finishes this season, is ranked 17th in the nation by Golfstat and leads the Saints with a scoring average of 71.54.

The Saints women's team landed three players on the team, with sophomore Sophie Wheeler of England making the first team for the second time after capturing two tournament titles, four top-10 finishes and finishing third in the PBC in scoring average at 75.3. She has also been the conference player of the week three times and is 48th in the nation among NCAA Division II players by Golfstat.

Two freshmen made the second team, Fernanda Lacaz of Brazil and Jan Browne of Ireland. Lacaz is seventh in the conference in scoring average (77.54) and Browne is 10th (78.48).

The Flagler women's team is going for its fifth conference championship in a row, after winning the previous four at the King & Bear. The men's and women's PBC tournaments began on Friday and will end on Sunday.

The University of North Florida and Jacksonville University women's teams will begin play in the ASUN championship Sunday at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.

First Coast Women's Amateur

registration opens

Applications will be accepted for the First Coast Women's Amateur June 22-23 at the King & Bear on May 2 at the Jacksonville Area Golf Association website (jaxareagolf.org).

The competition will be held in amateur, senior and super-senior divisions. The tournament is open to all Florida residents and a select number of out-of-state participants. The entry deadline is June 13.

The amateur division is open to players 13 years or older by June 22, 2022, with a verifiable USGA handicap of 10.0 or lower; the senior division is open to players who have reached 50 years old by June 22, with a handicap of 10.0 or lower; and the super-senior division is open to players who have reached 65 years old by June 22, with a handicap of 18.0 or better.

Kaitlyn Schroeder is the defending champion in the amateur division, Kim Keyer-Scott in the senior division and Nancy Smith in the super-senior division.

Schroeder playing in USGA Four-Ball

Kaitlyn Schroeder of Jacksonville and Bailey Shoemaker of Dade City will play in the United States Golf Association Women's Amateur Four-Ball beginning April 20 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Schroeder and Shoemaker earned their way into the tournament last year by firing a 64 to win a qualifier at the Quail Ridge Golf Club in Boynton Beach.

Schroeder, who has verbally committed to Alabama, got to match play last year at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, with Lauren Clark and fell 1-up to Tayor Ledwein and Megan Welch of Minnesota.

Ken Moody of Ponte Vedra Beach shot 7-over 220 to tie for 10th in the 61st Florida Senior Amateur at the Avila Golf and Country Club in Tampa. He finished eight shots behind winner Michael McCoy of North Palm Beach. ... The Ponte Vedra Inn and Club team of Jill Ouellete, Denise Bench, Polly Gleichenhaus and Sheryl Quinn finished fourth in the Florida Women's Interclub Championship at the TPC Treviso Bay in Naples. The host team won with 204 points over 36 holes under a Stableford scoring system. ... Bryson Hughes of St. Johns shot 72 in the second round and finished second in the Florida Junior Tour 13-15 New Smyrna Open. Lucas Gimenez (152) shot 69 in the second round, 14 strokes lower than his opening 83, to tie for fourth and Cameron Reid (154) of Ponte Vedra Beach tied for seventh. ... Stefan Ink of Ponte Vedra tied for third in the FJT 16-18 Harbor Hills Open at 3-over 147. Sam Davis (148) of Jacksonville tied for fifth and Henry Robards (149) of Jacksonville tied for eighth.
