Flagship Toys R Us locations coming to Macy's. What to know

Legendary toy retailer Toys R Us is returning to its brick-and-mortar roots. Somewhat.

Toys R Us officials announced the retail chain is extending and expanding its relationship with Macy's, resulting in flagship Toys R Us locations opening inside Macy's locations nationwide next year.

What Toys R Us flagship expansion means for current Macy's locations

In essence, these flagship Toys R Us locations will be much bigger than the small Toys R Us shops that Macy's currently house.

These flagship stores will not replace the Toys R Us shops that currently exist within Macy's, and instead, the flagship stores will work as an extension of those shops.

In short, Macy's customers will soon have two Toys R Us contact points.

WHP Global, which owns the Toys R Us brand, has not yet indicated which Macy's locations will have one of the new Toys R Us flagship stores.

Macy's department stores will expand its partnership with Toys "R" Us, expanding the toy-sellers footprint at Macy's throughout the region and country.

Toys R Us to place flagships in Macy's, expand to airports, cruise ships

The Toys R Us flagship stores will be rolled out in “prime cities” and in partnership with Go! Retail Group.

The iconic toy retailer said it plans to sell toys in airports and on board cruise ships as part of what WHP Global is calling the “Air, Land and Sea” expansion.

In a bid to capitalize on the rise of travel retail, the first airport store is scheduled to open in November at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and will be operated by Duty Free Americas.

Stores on cruise ships will sell toys and cruise-themed merchandise, WHP Global said.
