Victims of South Fayette Township house fire identified

Two people are dead after a house fire in South Fayette Township.

The victims were identified as 75-year-old Barbara Bonilla and 81-year-old Benito Bonilla.

Flames tore through the home on Thoms Run Road Monday, eventually causing the roof to collapse.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after 1:00 p.m. and spent around seven hours there.

According to Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Chief Bill Supan, a hoarding situation at the home made rescuing two people inside impossible.

“[Firefighters] tried to make entry in the front door and it was just impossible to pass,” Supan said. “It was a hoarding situation so it made things difficult. We could not make entry just because of the amount of stuff that was in the house.”

Supan said two bodies were pulled from the rubble.

They were found on the second floor of the home.

“After we were here a while relatives told us there were two people home. We did recover two bodies,” Supan said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.
