Flamin' Hot Cheetos Tamales Divide Washington Family on Christmas Eve

For many families in the US, it wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without fresh tamales. This footage shows Washington resident Art Hernandez making the traditional corn-based dish on December 24, but with an added ingredient: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Hernandez’s parents are both from Michoácan, Mexico, and he told Storyful that his family has had tamales on Christmas Eve for “as long as I can remember.” But eight years ago he started making his own, adding Cheetos for his child.

The Flamin’ Hot Cheetos tamales are controversial in the Hernandez household, though — Art’s mother refuses to eat them. This Christmas Eve, Hernandez’s wife and mother were hard at work on their own, classic tamales. Regardless of individual taste, everyone in the family will get a tamale.
