Flash Flooding Threat for Acadiana Wednesday

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Multiple Flash Flood Warnings are in effect across northern and western Acadiana this morning as heavy storms have slowly moved into the area. Heavy storms are expected throughout the day which could lead to further flash flooding within more parishes. The Weather Prediction Center has all of Acadiana in the “Moderate Potential” for flash flooding which is considered a Level 3 out of 4.

Futuretrack shows heavy storms moving into Acadiana tomorrow morning with periods of heavier rains throughout the day into the evening hours.

As the ground becomes more saturated and the drainage areas fill up, the flash flooding threat will increase rapidly with any additional rainfall.

Estimated rainfall totals are from 4″-6″ inches across Acadiana with isolated higher amounts that could reach 8″ inches or more.

On top of the flash flooding threat, there is a low-end risk for severe storms in Acadiana on Wednesday. Embedded storms could produce damaging winds and/or a weak tornado. The Storm Prediction Center has the area under a “Slight Risk” for severe weather.
