Flash floods overturn cars, wreak havoc in Spain

An intense storm on Wednesday (September 1) wreaked havoc in Castile-La Mancha, Tarragona and Castellon causing severe flooding in some towns, leaving thousands of people without electricity and forcing the closure of some roads and rail links.

The strong water stream overturned and smashed cars as it flooded highways and roads.

The storm, which gained strength due to high temperatures and humidity, hit especially hard in the coastal town of Alcanar, in the northeastern region of Catalonia.
