Flashes push lead at MAC Championships to 13 shots heading into final round

Kent State’s women’s golf team pushed its lead to 13 strokes after firing a 6-over-par 294 in the second round of the Mid-American Conference Championships, held Saturday at Stone Oak Country Club in Holland, Ohio.

Seniors Emily Price and Chloe Salort led the way once again for the Golden Flashes. Price birdied two of the last four holes to shoot a 1-over 73, and remains second individually at 1-under for the tournament. Salort produced the best round of the day for the Flashes, an even-par 72, and moved up a spot to third in the individual standings at 1-over through two rounds.

Price and Salort finished two-three at last year’s MAC Championships.

Junior Mayka Hoogeboom matched Price’s 73 on Saturday, bouncing back from an 81 in round one, and moved into a tie for 12th place at 10-over. Freshman Jennifer Gu shot her second straight 76, and rests in a tie for eighth at 8-over.

Kent State, seeking its 23rd consecutive MAC title, is 14-over through two rounds and leads Northern Illinois by 13 shots heading into Sunday’s final 18 holes. The Huskies’ Jasmine Ly is one shot in front of Price in the medalist race.

The Flashes will tee off Sunday at 9:50 a.m.
