HURON TOWNSHIP -- A Flat Rock turned himself into authorities in connection with the shooting death of a Detroit teenager during the weekend.

Jaylin Julius Colon, 20, of Flat Rock was arraigned on one count of second degree murder; one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of felony firearm. He was charged in 34th District Court before Judge Brian Oakley. The suspect was issued a $100,000 cash or surety bond.

The suspect was charged in connection with the shooting death of Gavino Torres III,17, of Detroit. It was originally reported by police that Torres was from Wyandotte.

At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, Huron Township police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 20000 block of Wahrman Road for a reported shooting. It is a rural area and Wahrman is a dirt road in that location, just east of I-275 and north of Huron River Drive.

Upon their arrival, officers located the victim with gunshot wounds to his left arm and left abdomen. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police said it appears Colon produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Torres, before fleeing the scene. The defendant turned himself into the Huron Township Police Department later the same day.

Further facts and evidence will be presented in court during the preliminary examination.
