Fiona Shaw delighted and terrified fans in equal measure as a sexually explicit therapist in Fleabag, but her latest upcoming role is closer to that of her MI6 agent Carolyn in Killing Eve. We're not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. (Or both.)

As filming gets under way for the second series of The Missing spin-off Baptiste, the crime drama has announced that Fiona will be joining Tchéky Karyo's Julien Baptiste as Emma Chambers, a British Ambassador whose entire family disappears.

Series two of Baptiste will follow retired police investigator Julien once more, as he struggles to cope with personal tragedy and a crumbling marriage, and turns to a gripping case in the underworld of Budapest for distraction.

Fiona Shaw's character will lie at the heart of Baptiste's latest mystery when her whole family goes missing while on a skiing holiday in the Hungarian mountains.

Baptiste quickly immerses himself into Emma's world, committed to finding her husband and two sons. However, the case turns into something far more brutal and desperate when Julien finds himself caught up in a system he doesn't quite trust.

Clearly excited for her new role, Fiona said that she was "honoured" to be joining the "hugely talented and committed team" on Baptiste. Name-checking writers Harry and Jack Williams and director Thomas Napper, she added: "I'm so lucky to be working with all the best of the new generation!"

Karyo also spoke of his impatience to get back into Julien's world, promising an "audacious" story for the thriller's second series.

"I can't wait to prepare for Julien's new adventure and for the emotions that he is about to go through," he added. "I'm looking forward to sharing this incredible journey with an amazing cast."

The six-part series is set to begin filming in Hungary next month, although no premiere date has been announced.
