A suspect doing 360-degree burnouts in Apple Valley fled from deputies and later crashed his vehicle into a freeway divider in Victorville, Apple Valley sheriff’s officials reported.

Around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, an off-duty sheriff’s employee in an unmarked vehicle saw a vehicle doing burnouts near the intersection of Wabisi and Mondamon roads. The area is west of Apple Valley Road and near The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The off-duty employee activated lights and sirens and tried to stop the vehicle, which drove away at a high rate of speed, police reported. The person followed and notified sheriff’s dispatch as the driver continued at a high rate of speed into Victorville and onto Interstate 15, sheriff's officials said.

A responding deputy drove onto I-15 ahead of the suspect and conducted a traffic break maneuver to slow the vehicle.

The driver, later identified as Daniel Eduardo Garcia, 19, of Apple Valley, crashed into the center divider of I-15, sheriff's officials stated.

Garcia was arrested and booked into High Desert Detention Center on suspicion of felony failure to yield. His bail set at $100,000.

Sheriff's officials did not say if Garcia was injured in the crash.
