Hurricane Idalia made landfall Wednesday along Florida's Big Bend, USA TODAY reports. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida, called the storm a Category 1 Hurricane.

Multiple weather warnings, including hurricane and tropical storm warnings, remained in effect Wednesday in parts of Florida, North and South Carolina and Georgia. More than 250,000 Florida homes and businesses were without power as of 11:10 a.m. ET, according to USA TODAY's power outage tracking database.

The storms have impacted Florida travel, including departures and arrivals at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Mindy Kershner, spokesperson for the airport, confirmed to The Enquirer that Hurricane Idalia has caused flight cancellations to and from the Gulf of Mexico/South Florida region.

“When natural disasters hit other parts of the country, CVG provides safe harbor parking for grounded aircraft," Kershner said in an emailed statement. "We help airlines relocate aircraft and provide space and support to our airport and airline partners however we can during these tough times.”

Why are flights canceled today?

Tampa International Airport closed to all commercial airline traffic Tuesday. On X, formerly known as Twitter, the airport said crews are assessing storm damage and hope to make an announcement Thursday about plans to reopen. Flights to and from Tampa International Airport are canceled until the airport can reopen.

Travel to other Florida destinations has also been impacted. Kershner said two arrival flights from Fort Meyers were canceled Tuesday and Wednesday, and two departures to the Florida city were canceled Wednesday.

A flight to Charleston, South Carolina, was also canceled Wednesday.

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport closed at 3 p.m. Tuesday due to the hurricane and plans to reopen Wednesday at 3 p.m., according to its website.

How to check if your flight is canceled

Head to CVGairport.com for a broad list of departures and arrivals to see which flights have been canceled or delayed. Flights scheduled for Wednesday can be found here.

Airlines handle flight schedules, Kershner said, so it's a good idea to stay connected with your specific airline, either online or through an app, to see your specific flight status. Check your destination airport's website and social media to see when it will reopen if it is closed.
