Floating on a ‘River of Love’: This Love County family has the secluded cabins to take you there

LOVE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – Like a gentle caress, Love Valley descends toward the Red River near Thackerville, Oklahoma, in Love County, and the perfect spot for a secluded getaway nearly 20 years in the making for Kelly Liddell, and lately, her daughter, Jonnah Whaley.

“It’s beautiful out here,” says Kelly as they walk down a shady lane.

“This is definitely something you don’t get in the city,” echoes Jonnah.

It’s been almost two decades since Kelly and her husband built their first cabin along the creek on 60 acres of woods and pasture.

“It’s like we brainstormed right there,” she recalls, “and the magic happened and here we are.”

From air in the tires to air in the home, this longtime OKC business family makes a pivot

The ‘Redbud Cabin’ begat the ‘Greenbrier Cabin.’

Those good ideas produced cabin offspring, and pretty soon, Kelly and Jonnah were coming up with all kinds of ideas while taking care of seven cabins winding their way through the trees.

Jonnah explains, “She has ideas. I have ideas, and sometimes, we have to put our heads together and make the ideas.”

“Or sometimes we butt heads,” Kelly laughs.

From the ‘Love Shack’ with its swinging bed, to the ‘Love Train,’ a 1940s-era decorated caboose, to the ‘Star Gazer.’

The River of Love Cabins offers spas and campfires, chocolates, and even engagement packages.

Messages left behind in guest book journals often tell a good story.

Jonnah adds, “Sometimes the journals even go so far as to say that River of Love saved their marriage.”

Just outside the ‘Redbud’ cabin, guests have started carving their initials into the cedars or leaving messages inside empty bottles.

Of course, Kelly and Jonnah insist the River of Love also plays host to families, good friends, and even the occasional single occupant.

But this time of year, mid-February, the first big booking date of the calendar year, the rooms are ready for none other than…

“Lovers,” laughs Liddell.
