Flood Advisory for Butler, Greene, Montgomery, Preble counties

Jul. 17—The threat for flash floods increases this evening as repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the region, bringing damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

A Flood Advisory is in effect until 11:45 p.m. for Butler, Greene, Montgomery and Preble counties, issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inches of rain has fallen with additional heavy rain due to thunderstorms expected that will lead to minor flooding. Do no drive over a flood-covered road; most flood deaths occur in vehicles, the NWS said.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday for Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties.

The main threats from storms will come overnight, bringing damaging winds and heavy rain that could cause local flooding. After reaching a high of 84 in Dayton and 86 in Cincinnati, the overnight low will fall to around 69 degrees.

On Saturday, the front will continue to push south through the day and into the evening, bringing more showers and a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day, according to the NWS.

Highs will be around 81 degrees, falling to around 66 degrees overnight.

The front is expected to move very slowly, though, only expecting to settle in central Kentucky late on Sunday.

So, there will still be a slight chance of rain Saturday night, and the NWS expects there to be scattered showers Sunday with embedded thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially closer to the slow-moving front to the south.

Sunday night will be clearer and drier, though some rain from the front will still linger in the Ohio Valley into Monday, especially along and east of I-71, the NWS said.

Highs on Sunday will be around 81 degrees, falling to a low around 64 degrees.
