New flood advisory issued for SLO County as tail end of storm sweeps across California

The National Weather Service issued a new flood advisory for San Luis Obispo County on Monday night as the tail end of an atmospheric river storm swept across the Central Coast.

According to the National Weather Service advisory, flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected in the county through midnight.

Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated light-to-moderate rain showers were moving across the area at 7:12 p.m., the advisory said. Rain rates of 0.10 to 0.25 inches per hour with locally higher rates were expected.

Another inch of rain could fall across the county overnight, the National Weather Service added.

Meanwhile, flooding closed Highway 1 in both directions from Division Street to Oso Flaco Road in San Luis Obispo County, Caltrans announced Monday night.

There was no estimate for reopening.

More rain on the way for SLO County

The advisory comes after a relatively clear day in the wake of the weekend’s intense atmospheric river storm.

That storm system brought more than 2 inches of rain to several parts of San Luis Obispo County — with more expected to be on the way through this week.

The National Weather Service’s latest forecast Monday night called for periods of rain through at least Tuesday night, though possibly through Thursday morning.

“Light-to-moderate rain will be common, with locally heavy but brief downpours,” the forecast read.
