Flood watch issued for Pike County; heavy rain likely

A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for an area that includes Pike County.

“Periods of heavy rain are likely, beginning late tonight and lasting into Friday night,” the National Weather Service said Thursday afternoon. “Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are expected, with localized heavier amounts up to 3 inches possible along southern and eastern facing slopes of the Catskills and Poconos.”

This could cause "flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks."

Pike County was the only Pennsylvania county under a flood watch, as of Thursday evening. The watch also includes parts of New York and New Jersey. Higher rainfall is expected farther east.

Milford could see 1.5 to 2 inches of rain, according to a Thursday afternoon forecast from the NWS office in Binghamton, New York.

The watch is in effect through Saturday morning.
