Flood watch remains for Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Plus other possible weather problems

South Florida will remain under a flood watch possibly throughout Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Here’s what the NWS has to say about flooding and other hazardous weather.

Flood and rain

Expecting a dry June Sunday? Tell us you haven’t spent much time in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Palm Beach area without telling us you haven’t spent much time in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Palm Beach area.

Of course, there will be the daily rain. The NWS predicts “Widespread amounts of an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall are possible through this evening with localized amounts of 4-plus inches possible. This could lead to additional flooding especially in areas that have been saturated from heavy rainfall over the past several days.”

The flood watch, meaning conditions are present for flooding, covers Miami-Dade County, Broward County, Palm Beach County, Glades County and Hendry County. It’ll remain in effect until “at least this evening” says the NWS, which also says it’s currently set to end at midnight.

Spouts and strikes

Sunday’s thunderstorms could crackle with lightning strikes, as Saturday’s did. If lightning is spotted in your area, get inside. Proper lightning safety might mean a few interruptions in your pool or beach days.

“An isolated waterspout cannot be ruled out over the Atlantic and Gulf waters with the stronger thunderstorms,” the weather service said.

A high of 85 degrees and low of 73 degrees is expected.
