Flood warning issued for York County; winds could gust up to 55 m.p.h. today

Update on Wednesday: A flood warning has been issued for York County, according to the National Weather Service.

Minor flooding is in the forecast for the Yellow Breeches Creek, which borders York and Cumberland counties.

The creek is expected to crest at 8.4 feet this afternoon, the weather service says. Flood stage is 7 feet.

It is anticipated that the creek will fall below flood stage on Thursday morning, the weather service says.

Meanwhile, South Eastern School District has called for a two-hour delay because of flooding, standing water and closed roads, according to a news release.

The National Weather Service also has updated its wind advisory for south-central Pennsylania, including Adams, Lebanon and York counties.

Southwest winds will be increasing to 20 to 25 m.p.h. with gusts reaching to 45 m.h.p. during the predawn hours Wednesday, the advisory states.

The winds will come from the west during the daylight hours, and peak gusts could reach 50 to 55 m.p.h., the weather service says.

A flood watch has been issued for south-central Pennsylvania, including Adams, Lebanon and York counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm arriving on Tuesday is expected to deliver 1.5 to 3 inches of rainfall, the weather service says. Snow remains on the ground from a storm on Saturday, and it will melt, leading to more runoff.

The runoff could result in flooding of rivers, streams, creeks and low-lying or flood prone locations.

The watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, the weather service says.

Snow could be mixed in with the rain at the start of the storm on Tuesday, the weather service says. The precipitation is expected to become all rain around 10 a.m. in York County and after noon in Lebanon County.

Wind advisory also in effect for parts of south-central Pennsylvania

A wind advisory also is in effect from noon Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday when the area could see wind speeds of 25 to 35 m.p.h. with gusts up to 55 m.p.h.

The weather service advises to be careful while driving, especially with a high profile vehicle, and to secure any loose objects outdoors.
