Flooded homes, ruined roads left after Hurricane Ian

STORY: Ian, one of the strongest storms ever to hit the U.S. mainland, destroyed the Sanibel Causeway, the only bridge to get to Sanibel Island from the rest of Florida.

Footage shared by the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows extensive flooding, fires and debris along roads and buildings.

Much of San Carlos Island was flooded. Residents like Karen told Reuters she lost everything.

Hurricane Ian had transformed Florida's southwestern shoreline, dotted with sandy beaches, coastal towns and mobile home parks, into a disaster zone.

More than 2.6 million homes and businesses in Florida remained without power.
