Flooding in Houston turns deadly

Massive flooding in Houston after tropical storm Imelda lashed southeast Texas.

Now, highways and roads are underwater and cars submerged.

(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) JESUS GUARDADO, ABANDONED HIS CAR, SAYING:

"I got the things that were important and walked out. The water was about knee-high.

Flash flood watches were still in effect Friday and urgent rescues underway, as first responders worked to reach stranded and others trapped in their homes.

While officials say hundreds have been saved, two deaths have been confirmed.

One man died when he drove his van into floodwaters.

(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) WITNESS SAYING:

"It was a good 20 minutes before they got him out. but it was beyond--he'd just been under water too long."

The National Hurricane Center said by Friday up to 45 inches of rain will have fallen in some of the communities that Hurricane Harvey ravaged two years ago.

(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) GENE LEBLANC SAYING:

"We're back to ground zero again."

Gene LeBlanc's town Winnie was one of the hardest hit areas during Harvey. He said they lost everything when Harvey drowned southeast Texas.

(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) ADAM LEBLANC SAYING:

"The thought of losing everything in my house and restarting everything again."

The storm has knocked out power to nearly 100,000 people in the Houston-area.
