Deep Floods in Sumas as Deluge Batters Washington State

Floodwaters poured into Sumas, Washington, on Monday morning, November 15, as persistent rain overwhelmed creeks, officials said.

Sumas Police posted video to Twitter showing the flooding on Cherry Street.

The City of Sumas said “multiple” vehicles had been washed out and encouraged residents not to drive past road closure signs. All roads leading out of town were closed Monday morning, the city said.

“This flood event is looking more like the flood of 1990, so we will probably see more flooding [than] we did in 2020,” the city wrote, referencing flooding that caused more than $2.4 million in damage in February of last year, the Bellingham Herald reported.
