Flooding Prompts Evacuations as Atmospheric River Lashes Southern British Columbia

Evacuation alerts were in place in multiple areas of Abbotsford on November 14, as an atmospheric river brought heavy rain and flooding to southern British Columbia.

This footage, by Abbotsford resident Trevor Birak, shows what’s normally a small waterfall in a residential area swollen to a gushing torrent. The footage was filmed on Old Yale Road. “I’ve never seen anything like that there,” Birak said.

Abbotsford police said there were no injuries after small mudslides affected 14 properties.

“A significant atmospheric river event is bringing copious amounts of rain and near record temperatures to the British Columbia south coast,” Environment Canada said on Sunday.
