Areas in New South Wales’s (NSW) Riverina region resembled an “inland sea” on Monday, November 21, amid days of heavy flooding.

Footage shared by NSW state MP Helen Dalton shows floodwaters washing up against a stretch of road between Deniliquin and Jerilderie.

“An inland sea or just the plains between Deniliquin and Jerilderie?” Dalton wrote on Facebook. “Honestly the water inundating our landscape has to be seen to be believed.”

Some residents in Deniliquin were ordered to evacuate by 10 am on Wednesday as the Edward River continued to rise.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited residents in Eugowra, a town further north near Forbes, that had been severely impacted by flooding last week.

“Safe to say communities around the country that’ve been hit by floods are doing it tough,” Albanese said in a post announcing new flood-relief efforts. Credit: Helen Dalton via Storyful
