Florence Police: Man charged with attempted murder after hitting victim with car, pulling gun

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Florence Police Department arrested and charged a 73-year-old man with attempted murder Wednesday night.

According to FPD, Larry Franklin Palmer, 73, of Iron City, “aggressively accelerated” at the victim in the parking lot, knocking them to the ground before pulling a revolver on the person. The victim ran into the store while Palmer ran from the scene.

Police arrived at the store around this time and began looking for Palmer.

FPD said around 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the hospital where staff had located a gun on a patient who had just checked in. FPD said Palmer was the patient. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.

During the investigation, it was learned that Palmer and the victim were involved in an ongoing legal battle in Tennessee, according to FPD.

When Palmer was released from the hospital, he was arrested for attempted murder and tampering with a witness. He is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center with a $60,300 bond.
