Florida’s 6-week abortion ban nearing final passage

Florida’s six-week abortion ban is now ready for a floor vote in the state Senate, which is expected next week. It comes after a marathon committee meeting in Tallahassee Tuesday. For about four hours, public speaker after speaker offered tears and fears supporting and challenging the proposed change to the state’s current 15-week ban. If signed by the governor, SB 300 would cut abortion access in Florida to six weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest, and fatal fetal conditions. Six weeks is before many know they’re pregnant— but around the time cardiac activity may be detected.
