Florida amendment would allow school board candidates to run under political party

Florida lawmakers are looking over new legislation that would make school board elections partisan in the state.

A state Senate committee recently approved the proposed constitutional amendment.

The amendment would allow school board candidates to run under a political party.

Currently, the state constitution requires school board races to be non-partisan.

The amendment has one more committee stop before it goes before the full Senate.

If it goes before voters and they approve it, partisan school-board elections would begin in 2026.
