This Florida city was just named one of the best places in the world to visit

Forget Miami, the home of the never-ending party. Don’t even think about Theme Park Central, Orlando. You can even skip the Florida Keys and its stunning aquamarine water and breathtaking sunsets.

If you’re coming to Florida, the place to visit is apparently Jacksonville.

At least, that’s the conclusion of Travel Lemming, a travel site that encourages its readers to venture off the well-journeyed paths.

Travel Lemming has released its “50 Best Places to Travel in 2024,” and Jacksonville is the only Florida city to make the list. The site praises the city, ranked no. 29 and located on the St. Johns River, for exuding “an authentic, local appeal” as well as “fewer tourists, a family-friendly atmosphere, and engaging activities.”

“Jacksonville, Florida is the biggest city by area in all of the continental United States,” the site reports. “Yet, it doesn’t get the same credit as places like New York and San Diego.” A shocking statement, we know.

“Historical sites, art installations, and delicious eats add to Jacksonville’s cultural scene,” the story goes on. “Many local bars, restaurants, and retailers are black-owned, female-led, and LGBTQ+-friendly.”

The city is also close to desirable tourist destinations Amelia Island and St. Augustine, Travel Lemming points out. Last month, New York Travel Guides named St. Augustine as one of the most romantic small towns in the United States.

The no. 1 place to travel in 2024 is Yucatan, Mexico, which Travel Lemming suggests instead of crowded Cancun. The rest of the top 10 places to travel are Gizo, Solomon Islands in the South Pacific; Stavanger, Norway; Antigua, Guatemala; Memphis, Tennessee; Phu Quoc, Vietnam; St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada; Kodiak, Alaska; Guatapé, Colombia; and Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
