Florida first lady Casey DeSantis completes chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer

Florida first lady Casey DeSantis has completed her chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, NBC affiliate WFLA reported.

DeSantis's husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), announced his wife's latest health update at a news conference on Thursday in Bowling Green, Fla.

"She's doing well, and we look forward to continue to have good news over the ensuing weeks and months," Ron DeSantis said. "It's not the most fun thing to see someone go through, but at the end of the day, she's fought really hard. We think she's responded very well."

In a tweet, Casey DeSantis thanked her husband for being by her side during her treatment.

"Thank you for being by my side from the beginning, but especially yesterday as we celebrated my FINAL Chemo Treatment together. I'm grateful, very humbled and blessed," Casey DeSantis wrote in her tweet.

Ron DeSantis announced his wife's cancer diagnosis in October, saying, "Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up," according to WFLA.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, 131,409 Florida women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 with a rate of 438 per 100,000 residents, nearly four times higher than the national rate of 127 cases.

WFLA noted that Casey DeSantis completed her chemotherapy treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.
