Florida gas prices are currently sitting about 22 cents lower than the national average, three cents under last month’s average and $1.32 less than last year as the July 4 weekend approaches.

A record 2.8 million Floridians are expected to travel for the holiday weekend, marking 87,000 more travelers than the previous record high set last year, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Florida gas prices averaged $4.54 per gallon on July 4, 2022. That amounts to $18 more for a full tank compared to what drivers are paying now, according to AAA.

In Pensacola, where gas is among the cheapest in the state, the situation is similar. Here’s what travelers should know ahead of the July 4th weekend and where they can find the cheapest gas if they’re road-tripping.

What are the gas prices in Pensacola?

The average price of regular gas in Pensacola is $3.28, according to AAA. Similar to the rest of the state, that’s about three cents lower than last week and $1.26 lower than last year.

Where is the cheapest gas in Pensacola?

The cheapest gas in Pensacola can currently be found at BJ’s and Sam’s Club, according to GasBuddy, a technology company that tracks gas prices using crowd-sourced data. Both gas stations have regular gas for $2.99 for members.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day on the roads, according to INRIX, a provider of transportation data and insights. While the worst time to start driving will vary, it will typically be in the afternoon and early morning.

Drivers can expect to add about 30% more driving time to their travel plans, especially if they are in major metro areas or near beaches and other attractions.

The best chance to beat the traffic is to leave mid-morning or after 6 p.m.
