How Florida Gators’ Anthony Richardson compares to Vince Young and Tim Tebow

After ESPN’s Greg McElroy compared Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson to Texas legend Vince Young, we wondered: How did Richardson’s first home start compare to those from recent dual-threat stars?

Local of the week

Florida linebacker Amari Burney (Calvary Christian)

Burney sealed UF’s upset of Utah last week with a diving interception in the end zone — a gratifying moment for a player who had fallen out of favor with some fans. He’ll try to build on it against a sound Kentucky offense.

Eye on the NFL draft

Quarterback-needy teams will be all over the top-20 Florida-Kentucky matchup. The Gators’ Anthony Richardson lived up to his early first-round hype last week, and Kentucky’s Will Levis is a big-time prospect, too. Last week, he joined former No. 1 overall pick Tim Couch as the only Wildcats to pass for at least 300 yards in back-to-back season openers.

Bulls-Bison connections

Howard coach Larry Scott, a member of USF’s inaugural team, isn’t the only staffer with notable Tampa ties. Receivers coach Lindsey Lamar was the Big East’s 2010 special teams player of the year at USF. Special teams/defensive line coach Vernon Hargreaves was a USF assistant from 2010-12 and is the father of Vernon Hargreaves III, the former Wharton High/Gators/Bucs cornerback. Defensive coordinator Troy Douglas spent three years as a Bulls assistant.

Frank Gore at Miami

If you want to feel old, watch No. 15 Miami host Southern Miss and star running back Frank Gore Jr. His father was a member of the Hurricanes’ 2001 title team — arguably the most talented in college football history — and retired from the NFL earlier this year. The younger Gore set career highs in carries (32) and yards (178) in last week’s quadruple overtime loss to Liberty.
