The Florida Gators are in line to add a top recruit to their defense.

A five-star edge rusher, Jamonta Waller, verbally committed Monday to the Gators. Rated the No. 1 prospect in Mississippi and No. 5 at the edge rusher position for the 2024 recruiting cycle, Waller stands 6-feet-2 and weighs 225 pounds.

After taking an official visit to the Gainesville school on June 16, Waller announced his pledge via Twitter.

“FAMILY — means having someone to love you unconditionally in spite of your shortcomings,” Waller wrote on Twitter. “It also means investing in relationships and practicing trust. So I’m trusting my new Family @GatorsFB 1000% COMMITTED.”

Waller took official visits to Auburn and Penn State earlier in June, but chose the Gators after visiting UF on Friday. The 247 Sports’ crystal ball predicted Ole Miss would snag Waller’s talents.

He’s entering his senior season with Picayune Memorial High in Picayune, Mississippi.

Waller’s addition gives head coach Billy Napier the No. 3 recruiting class for 2024, according to 247 Sports. Georgia possesses the top class followed by Michigan.

Waller also became the ninth recruit to commit to the Gators in a week.
