Florida Georgia Line singer and Volusia native Brian Kelley unveils new single

There’s new music from Florida Georgia Line country star and Volusia County native Brian Kelley, who has just released “How We’re Livin’,” another track from his upcoming full-length solo album.

Here’s what you need to know about the singer’s new music:

What is Brian Kelley’s new single?

Powered by a wall of overdriven electric guitars, “How We’re Livin’” is a hard-charging country-rock anthem that celebrates family tradition, according to the singer.

“Most people know my love for the beach, but I’ve been in a cowboy hat since birth,” Kelley said in a news release announcing the song’s release. “This song is all about being proud of where you come from and living life to the fullest. I’m constantly inspired by everything around me, and these lyrics really do reflect a genuine connection to my roots and what’s influencing my forthcoming debut album.”

The announcement also characterizes “How We’re Livin’” as music that embraces “the rebellious nature of the backwoods lifestyle" and “a passion-filled promise to keep the old-school traditions alive and well, while holding nothing back in the process.”

The announcement also offers a nod to the singer’s upcoming 10th wedding anniversary with his wife, Brittney, adding that the couple often spend time fishing, riding ATVs or spending quality time in rocking chairs on the front porch in her native Georgia.

In addition to new music, a new link to outdoor brand

The Kelleys recently announced a partnership between their Tribe Kelley fashion brand and Mossy Oak, an industry leader in camouflage design and outdoor lifestyle apparel.

Mossy Oak's iconic Greenleaf pattern is now showcased on an array of Tribe Kelley products available through Tribe Kelley's official online store, as well as the brick-and-mortar Tribe Kelley Surf Post in Grayton Beach, between Pensacola and Panama City on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

What are Brian Kelley’s Volusia roots?

Kelley was born and raised in Ormond Beach, the son of former Volusia County Council Chair Ed Kelley. A 2004 graduate of Seabreeze High School, he played high-school baseball on local diamonds and nurtured his musical aspirations attending concerts at the Daytona Beach Bandshell.

“It’s a special place that pushed me and helped me along the way,” Kelley said of the Bandshell in an interview with The News-Journal ahead of a homecoming performance there earlier this year. “It’s always in my heart, in my head. I still think back to those days.”

Kelley celebrated his roots in the music video for the 2021 single “Florida Boy Forever,” which featured the singer against a backdrop of Volusia and Flagler county landmarks.

Has Florida Georgia Line split?

A lot has happened since then.

Kelley teamed with musical partner Tyler Hubbard in 2012 to form Florida Georgia Line, a genre-blending country duo that dominated the charts for a decade.  The duo has logged 19 No. 1 singles, more than 17 billion global streams and 4.8 million albums sold.

Florida Georgia Line is the only country act to achieve two RIAA Diamond-certified singles — the 14-time platinum No. 1s “Cruise” and “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha.

After rumblings about a pending split that had started in 2020, the duo officially played their final show together ― for the time being at least ― in August 2022. Along the way, Kelley released his 2021 debut solo album, “Sunshine State of Mind.” In January, Hubbard released a self-titled solo debut album.

In May, Kelley told The News-Journal that he’s open to the possibility of a FGL reunion, but is focusing on his own music right now.

“I love what we created, and I think people still want to see it. We’ll just have to see,” he said. “That answer is not held with me. Right now, we’re on a break and really focusing on solo careers. I’m just excited to be focused on building my career.”
