Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who for months has been rumored to be a Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, is coming to Peoria.

Congressman Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap, announced that DeSantis will be the keynote speaker at the Peoria-Tazewell County Lincoln Day dinner on May 12, one of the largest Republican gatherings in the state, according to a news release from LaHood.

LaHood referred to DeSantis as one of the "preeminent conservative voices" who is "fighting back against the radical left."

“As Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis has enabled his state to thrive because he leads with fiscal responsibility, family values, and Constitutional principles," LaHood said in the news release. "I am honored to welcome him to this year’s Peoria-Tazewell Lincoln Day Dinner and look forward to hearing him share his Florida Blueprint with Central Illinois conservatives.”

DeSantis joins a list of prominent Republicans on the national political stage to appear at the dinner, including former Vice President Mike Pence, Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Further details on the Lincoln Day Dinner will be released at a later date, according to the news release.
