Florida man, 18, charged after crash in Warwick injures 5

An 18-year-old driver from Florida is facing multiple charges after a two-car crash in Warwick on Thursday afternoon sent five people to the hospital, two of them with serious injuries, Warwick police said.

The crash involving a Ford SUV and Subaru sedan happened at about 3 p.m. near 333 Sandy Lane, the police said. Both cars were badly damaged, and firefighters had to extricate two passengers from the Subaru, according to the police.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the police say high speed and road conditions were factors.

The driver of the Subaru was taken into custody and charged with two counts of driving to endanger resulting in serious personal injury, three counts of driving to endanger resulting in injury, and reckless driving, the police said. He will also be issued several traffic citations.
