Florida man charged with attempted murder after shooting at 4 people, injuring 3: HCSO

TAMPA (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man accused of trying to murder four people last year.

Deputies responded to calls of a shooting on Sweet Sapling Street in Riverview around 5:48 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2023.

On arrival, investigators say they found three victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Deputies said the shooting happened after a verbal altercation turned physical, and a fourth victim was assaulted when trying to break up the fight.

During the investigation, detectives said they arrested 44-year-old Darcy Washington on Feb. 6 on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm and Deadly Weapon (x3)

  • Attempted Murder in the First Degree Premeditated Firearm – Discharge (x2)

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Premeditated Firearm – Discharge (x2)

  • Discharge Firearm in Public or On Residential Property

  • Shooting at Within or Into a Building

“This criminal can no longer inflict pain and violence in the community now that he’s behind bars,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This investigation and successful arrest shows the tremendous diligence of teamHCSO’s deputies and detectives.”

The investigation is ongoing.
