Florida man charged with not paying bills after eating at Aquidneck Island restaurants

A Florida man is being charged in at least two Aquidneck Island communities with consuming food and drinks at restaurants and leaving without paying.

Middletown police in a press release Friday said they arrested a 58-year-old man from Palm Beach, Florida, and charged him with two counts of obtaining food with intent to defraud.

Additionally, the man has been charged with one count of obtaining food with intent to defraud by Portsmouth police.

According to police, the man went into Tito’s Cantina on West Main Road in Middletown on Sept. 15 and consumed food and drinks, then left the restaurant without paying. On Sept. 13, a man with a similar description went into Ida’s Restaurant on Valley Road in Middletown and consumed food and drinks before leaving without paying.

Police said the man admitted to investigators he did go to Ida’s and leave without paying. He also admitted to having had food and drinks at Fieldstones on East Main Road in Portsmouth on Sept. 15 and did not pay.

In addition to the listed restaurants, other local restaurants have reported similar incidents involving a man with a description similar to the suspect. The investigation into the other restaurants is ongoing.
