Florida man dies in single-vehicle crash in Sherrills Ford

Sep. 14—A 19-year-old Florida man was killed after he was thrown from his vehicle in a Tuesday accident on N.C. 150 in Sherrills Ford.

At about 3 p.m. Tuesday, the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident in Catawba County on N.C. 150, near Beaver Boulevard, said Master Trooper Christopher Casey.

Robert Allen Heath III, 19, of Tavares, Florida, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic west on N.C. 150 and drove off the right side of the road, drove back onto the roadway, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road and overturned the vehicle that landed upside down on its roof.

Heath, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Casey said.

The N.C. Highway Patrol closed the area to traffic for an hour.

The investigation showed that speed and alcohol were not contributing circumstances in the accident, Casey said.
