Florida man dies weeks after being hit by truck in Hackettstown

A Florida man died over the weekend from injuries sustained when he was hit by a truck while walking across a Hackettstown street last month, police said.

Michael J. Russo, 67, of Wildwood, Florida, died Saturday at Morristown Medical Center, according to the Hackettstown Police Department. He had been hospitalized since Sept. 21, when he was struck near the Wendy's restaurant on Mountain Avenue around 4:47 p.m.

A police investigation determined a Chevy pickup truck, driven by a 59-year-old Oxford resident, was making a left turn onto an access road from the Wendy's parking lot when he struck Russo, who was crossing the road. The driver, whose identity was not released by police, was not injured in the accident and did not receive any summonses.

Hackettstown police and the First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to the scene, along with the Independence First Aid Squad and paramedics from St. Clare's Health.
