Florida middle school evacuated after partial roof collapse

Children were evacuated from a Florida middle school Friday morning after a section of the roof collapsed, according to district officials and multiple reports.

The incident happened in the media center at Oakland Park’s James S. Rickards Middle School, just north of Fort Lauderdale.

There were no immediate reports of injuries as the media center was believed to be empty at the time, Broward County Public Schools reportedly told parents after the incident.

Emergency responders were at the scene assessing the damage and investigating the cause.
