Scary hours are nearly here with Halloween arriving Saturday. With so many horror villains to choose from, a new map shows the most popular character in each state across the country.

Florida picked a true nightmare on any street with Freddy Krueger winning as the state’s most popular horror nemesis. Krueger first appeared as a fictional character in Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” film in 1984.

The villain born Frederick Charles Krueger, and his trademark bladed glove, has been a mainstream success over the last three decades.

According to Wikipedia, In addition to the “Nightmare” series, Krueger’s had TV spin-offs, was a playable video game character in “Mortal Kombat" and “Dead by Daylight,” and ranked 40th on American Film Institute’s “100 Years...100 Heroes and Villains” list.

He’s also been featured in a few theme park attractions.

Freddy Krueger was in Halloween Horror Nights 17 and 25 at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood alongside Jason Voorhees of “Friday the 13th” fame, according to Wikipedia.

Voorhees tied for the number one most popular horror villain in the country with Michael Myers from “Halloween.”

The map was created with geotagged Twitter data from more than 100,000 tweets and hashtag data taken since Oct. 1.

Home entertainment and seating company Valencia Theatre Seating produced the map. The company does movie and entertainment-based trend maps every month.

The state-by-state count ranks Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees winning 12 states each.

Pennywise from the “It” series ranked 3rd with 10 states. Freddy won seven states, with Florida, California, Oregon, Nevada, Kansas, Nebraska, and New York choosing him as the favorite.

Chucky from “Child’s Play" and Hannibal Lecter from “Silence of the Lambs” won three states apiece.

Leatherface of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” The Candyman and The Babadook of “Candyman,” and “The Babadook” fame, respectively, round out the bottom of the list with each being the favorite in a single state.
