Florida Power and Light uses technology to respond quicker this hurricane season
As hurricane season begins, Florida Power and Light wants to increase efficiency with power outages using new technology.

The company willuse smart devices that will allow them to re-route power to avoid outages.
FPL installed two hundred thousand smart devices to their grid to restore power before sending crews out is safe.
They will also use drones to assess damage up to one thousand miles away.

Conlan Kennedy, FPL spokesperson, said Hurricane Ian impacted millions of customers.
“2.1 million customers were impacted by the storm,” he said. “We were able to restore power to approximately two-thirds of our customers within a day following Ian.”
FPL encouraged everyone to make storm plans ahead of time.

Here are some tips from them:
Develop an emergency plan with your family.
Trim trees properly.
Take photos and videos of your home for insurance purposes.
Consider getting a non-cordless, non-mobile telephone for your home if the power goes out.
Gather essential supplies.
Keep important documents such as identifications, health cards, and insurance policies handy.
If you have pets, don’t forget to have an emergency plan for them. \
