Florida primary election 2022: See results from Volusia, Flagler County voting

Florida voters head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2022 primary and nonpartisan general elections.

Volusia County

After a tumultuous four years, including the firing of two superintendents and the roller-coaster ride of the pandemic, Jamie Haynes is asking voters for a second term as the Volusia County School Board District 1 representative. She's challenged by Albert L. Bouie, Georgann K. Carnicella, Jaclyn Carrell, and Virginia "Ginny-Beth" Joiner.

Kim Short and Jessie Thompson, both Republicans in a non-partisan race with Democrat Justin Kennedy, are battling for Volusia County School Board District 3 amidst allegations of bullying.

And Volusia County School Board Chair Ruben Colón wants a second term as the District 5 representative but faces a strong challenger, Fred Lowry, one of the first 10 school board candidates statewide to be endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The state race to watch is the Republican primary for the 7th Congressional District, featuring Erika Benfield, Brady Duke, Ted Edwards, Cory Mills, Rusty Roberts, Anthony Sabatini, Armando Al Santos, and Scott Sturgill al fighting for the position.

Andy Kelly, who twice won terms to the Volusia County Council, has brought the field of candidates for the at-large seat to four as he joins Sherrise Boyd, Jake Johansson and Doug Pettit in the race. Two more council seats for districts 4 and 5 are also on the ballot.

Deltona, Edgewater, and New Smyrna Beach are all voting for mayors, and there are city commission or council seats on the ballots for DeLand, Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, Pierson, and Ponce Inlet, with some amendments at stake for Ponce Inlet.

Flagler County

Sally Hunt is challenging incumbent Jill Woolbright for Flagler County School Board, District 1, while Lance Alred, Will Furry, Courtney VandeBunte fight it out for District 2 and Christy Chong challenges incumbent Trevor Tucker for District 4.

Flagler County Commission Chairman Joe Mullins, in the news most recently for telling a state trooper "I run this county" in one of his two recent speeding stops, faces a challenge from Leann Pennington while Denise Calderwood, Gregory L. Hansen and Janet O. McDonald vie for District 2. Theresa Carli Pontieri, Sims E. Jones, Shauna C. Kanter, and Alan Lowe are fighting for Palm Coast Council, District 2.

When do polls open and close on Election Day?

Polling locations in Florida are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in line by 7 p.m. will be permitted to cast their ballot. Here's where to find yours: Volusia County | Flagler County

Can I register to vote on Election Day in Florida?

Florida does not allow same-day voter registration. The deadline to register to vote is 29 days prior to the election. For the Aug. 23 primary, the last day to register was July 25.

Do I need ID to vote?

To vote in Florida, you must present a valid photo ID with signature. Here's what's accepted:

  • Florida driver’s license

  • Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

  • United States passport

  • Debit or credit card

  • Military identification

  • Student identification

  • Retirement center identification

  • Neighborhood association identification

  • Public assistance identification

  • Veteran health identification card issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs

  • License to carry a concealed weapon or firearm issued pursuant to s. 790.06

  • Employee identification card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the Federal Government, the state, a county, or a municipality

According to the Florida Division of Elections, you can still vote on a provisional ballot if you don't bring proper ID. As long as you are eligible and voted in the proper precinct, your provisional ballot will count, provided the signature on your provisional ballot matches the signature in your registration record.
