Florida primary election 2022: See results from Okaloosa and Walton county voting

Florida voters head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2022 primary and nonpartisan general elections.

In local races, there are a number of seats up for grabs.

Carolyn Ketchel, who is seeking a third term as Okaloosa County’s District 2 commissioner, will compete against candidates CareySue Beasley and Matt Turpin.

Trey Goodwin faces no opposition in the District 4 County Commission race and will secure a third term in office.

In Okaloosa County School Board races, incumbent Lamar White will face Jerry Buckman for the District 1 seat, incumbent Linda Evanchyk will compete with Darrel Barnhill for the District 3 seat and incumbent Diane Kelley will face Cara Marion for the District 5 seat.

At the national level, U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz is facing multiple challengers for Florida's first Congressional District.

In the Republican primary race, voters will decide between Gaetz, Greg Merk, and Mark Lombardo, while Peggy Schiller and Rebekah Jones vie for the Democratic nomination.

There are also four seats up for grabs in the Florida Legislature, including the Senate District 1 race. Voters will select three new state representatives in House Districts 1, 2 and 3.

When do polls open and close on Election Day?

Polling locations in Florida are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in line by 7 p.m. will be permitted to cast their ballot.

Can I register to vote on Election Day in Florida?

Florida does not allow same-day voter registration. The deadline to register to vote is 29 days prior to the election. For the Aug. 23 primary, the last day to register was July 25.

Do I need ID to vote?

To vote in Florida, you must present a valid photo ID with signature. Here's what's accepted:

  • Florida driver’s license

  • Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

  • United States passport

  • Debit or credit card

  • Military identification

  • Student identification

  • Retirement center identification

  • Neighborhood association identification

  • Public assistance identification

  • Veteran health identification card issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs

  • License to carry a concealed weapon or firearm issued pursuant to s. 790.06

  • Employee identification card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the Federal Government, the state, a county, or a municipality

According to the Florida Division of Elections, you can still vote on a provisional ballot if you don't bring proper ID. As long as you are eligible and voted in the proper precinct, your provisional ballot will count, provided the signature on your provisional ballot matches the signature in your registration record.
