Florida records 67,673 new COVID-19 cases, 813 deaths in 2 weeks

There were 67,673 new coronavirus cases recorded over the last two weeks among Florida residents, bringing the cumulative total to 7,066,234. With 813 more fatalities on record, 80,386 Florida residents have died.

The death total over the last two weeks reflects a decrease from the 1,014 reported in the two weeks prior, but deaths can take several days or weeks to be reported. Many newly reported deaths are of people who died before the last two weeks.

The number of cases over the last two weeks decreased compared to the 89,145 reported in the two weeks prior. Positivity decreased from 16.2% to 12.4%. That’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive.

Of note, the state reports deal only with Florida resident cases and exclude nonresident cases, which are no longer available.

Across the state, 3,110 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, according to the latest White House report. In comparison, 3,886 were hospitalized two weeks ago. Four weeks ago, it was 4,862.

Statewide, 16,017,132 residents, or 72% of people age 6 months and up, have received at least one vaccination shot, including 7,819,623 who have completed their shot regimens but not received an additional dose through Sept. 8. Meanwhile, 2,010 received an additional dose this week, bringing the total to 5,991,526.

Central Florida added 13,034 resident infections over the last two weeks, based on the actual date the state opened the case, for a total of 1,387,689: 3,614 more in Orange for 449,903; 1,118 more in Osceola for 135,844; 2,609 more in Polk for 243,113; 1,055 more in Lake for 101,959; 355 more in Sumter for 27,348; 1,378 more in Volusia for 140,976; 1,777 more in Brevard for 164,026; and 1,128 more in Seminole for 124,520.
