Florida reports 2,448 COVID deaths, over 100,000 cases this week

The state Department of Health reported 100,012 new coronavirus cases this week among Florida residents to bring the cumulative total to 3,409,165. With 2,448 more fatalities on record, 48,772 Florida residents have died.

This week’s 2,448 deaths reflect an increase from the 2,345 reported last week, but deaths can take several days or weeks to be reported.

The number of weekly cases decreased by 28,953 compared to the previous week’s 129,202. Positivity decreased to 13.5%, but that’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive.

Of note, the new state reports deal only with Florida resident cases and exclude non-residents cases, which are no longer available.

Across the state, 10,775 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 for the seven-day period from Sept. 1-7, according to the latest White House report. In comparison, 13,143 were hospitalized the previous week. The week before that, it was 14,833.

Statewide, 13,281,666 residents, or 69% of people age 12 and up, have received at least one vaccination shot, including 11,048,444 who have completed their shot regimens through Sept. 9.

Central Florida added 21,022 resident cases this week, based on the actual date the state opened the case, for a total of 663,529: 5,930 more in Orange for 213,034; 1,758 more in Osceola for 66,882; 4,767 more in Polk for 118,826; 1,739 more in Lake for 49,249; 492 more in Sumter for 13,322; 1,990 more in Volusia for 69,378; 2,589 more in Brevard for 75,107; 1,757 more in Seminole for 57,731.

Deaths are not available by county in the new weekly report.
