Florida State, Florida A&M advance to the NCAA volleyball tournament

The Florida State and Florida A&M volleyball teams learned their postseason fate on Sunday night.

The Seminoles will travel to Minneapolis, where they will face Northern Iowa (26-7) at 5:30 p.m. Friday,. No. 2 Minnesota and Southeastern Louisiana are also in the bracket.

FSU is seeded seventh in the region. This will be the third time that the Seminoles have been sent to Minneapolis for an NCAA Tournament match. FSU played a Sweet 16 match in the Minneapolis in 2011 and a Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matches in 2009.

FAMU continues postseason play as an automatic qualifier in the NCAA Tournament, and will meet host Florida in a first-round matchup Friday at 7 p.m.

With the selection, Florida extends its streak to 32-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the third-longest active streak in the nation. Florida Gulf Coast and Iowa State are also in Gainesville.

The Rattlers qualified for the NCAA event after sweeping competition in the SWAC Tournament. Consecutive straight-set wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bethune-Cookman, and the top-seeded Alabama State crowned FAMU back-to-back tournament champions.

The team has met UF five times in NCAA tournament play.
