Florida State football: Seminoles add Miami Hurricanes' transfer DT Darrell Jackson

Florida State football has landed its first player from the transfer portal of the season.

Miami defensive tackle transfer Darrell Jackson announced his intentions to join the Seminoles on Wednesday evening on social media.

Jackson announced his decision to leave Miami on Monday and he officially entered the transfer portal earlier Wednesday.

The 6-foot-6 defensive tackle hails locally from Gadsden County High. After transferring to Miami last offseason from Maryland, Jackson totaled 27 tackles, 4.5 for a loss, and three sacks this past season for the Hurricanes.

Jackson led all Miami DTs with 414 snaps and recorded a Pro Football Focus tackling grade of 82.9, which also led the team. He added a 73.1 PFF run defense grade and finished the year with 16 quarterback pressures.

Out of high school, he originally signed with Maryland. In 13 games in 2021, he had 22 total tackles with the Terrapins before transferring to Miami.

Because he already transferred from one program to another, Jackson is required to sit out the 2023 season unless he is granted an NCAA waiver.

According to Noles247, Jackson will apply for a hardship waiver, as his mother, who lives 30 minutes away, is dealing with a medical condition.

Jackson will add to a core defensive line rotation of Dennis Briggs Jr., Joshua Farmer, Malcolm Ray and Daniel Lyons.

Neither Fabien Lovett nor Jared Verse have announced their intentions of returning or heading to the NFL Draft. If one, or both, decide to return, it would make the defensive line a major strength for the Seminoles.

Defensive tackles Jarrett Jackson and Shambre Jackson have already entered the transfer portal and won't return next season.

The Seminoles have lost eight players to the transfer portal so far this offseason:

Receiver Keyshawn Helton, offensive lineman Rod Orr, along with defensive tackles Jarrett Jackson and Shambre Jackson, defensive end George Wilson, linebacker and former Chiles High star Amari Gainer and defensive backs Sam McCall and Sidney Williams.
