A record win over a heated rival catapulted the Florida State football team into the College Football Playoff rankings.
Granted, they're only No. 23 and have a minimal chance of actually making the four-team playoff. But the Seminoles are still feeling good ahead of their showdown Saturday at Syracuse, one of the surprise teams at the start of the season that has fallen back to earth in recent weeks.
FSU (6-3, 4-3 in ACC) is coming off a 45-3 shellacking of Miami. Quarterback Jordan Travis threw for three touchdowns, and running back Trey Benson ran in two to earn ACC Player of the Week honors.
The Orange (6-3, 3-2) began 6-0 but have lost three straight games, most recently a 19-9 defeat at Pittsburgh. One of the big questions facing Syracuse is who will start at quarterback. Garrett Shrader has been out since suffering an injury against Notre Dame on Oct. 29. Carlos Del Rio-Wilson started against Pitt and went 8 for 23 for 120 yards passing.
