Florida State softball prepares for Georgia Tech after a series win vs. Duke on the road

Let's not underestimate Florida State softball's accomplishment at No. 15 Duke last weekend.

The No. 6 Seminoles (26-7 overall, 5-1 ACC) won the series by capturing Sunday's rubber match.

The victory was significant for FSU.

It not only bounced back from a 1-3 trip in Oklahoma last week, but improved to 3-4 on the road this season.

The Seminoles return home for a three-game series against Georgia Tech (16-15, 2-7) at JoAnne Graf Stadium starting Friday at 6 p.m.

Standouts from the series vs. Blue Devils

The battery of Kathryn Sandercock and Michaela Edenfield carried the Seminoles to victory in the series opener Friday. Edenfield hit a two-run home run and Sandercock pitched five scoreless innings. Sandercock struck out three and allowed only one hit.

Kaley Mudge hit a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 loss. Despite the loss, Allison Royalty pitched well in the circle, allowing two earned runs in four innings. She struck out one and walked three hitters.

Ali DuBois and Makenna Reid combined for two innings of scoreless work, allowing three hits in relief.

The start time for the series finale Sunday was pushed back due to inclement weather, featured a delay and then was called early after 5 ⅔ innings to the weather.

Kalei Harding was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBI in the 7-3 win, while Josie Muffley added an RBI triple.

Sandercock was once again strong in the circle, allowing one earned run (three runs) on three in five innings, picking up her 11th win of the season. She struck out three and did not walk anyone.

For her strong week, she was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, which was announced Tuesday morning.

Sandercock is 11-3 on the season with a 1.26 ERA with 53 strikeouts and seven walks in 77 ⅔ innings. She also has three saves.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech has been successful on the road this season at 4-2 record, including taking two of three games against Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this month.

The Yellow Jackets, however, have lost seven straight conference games since opening with the wins against the Cavaliers. They are coming off a three-game sweep to Clemson at home, being outscored 30-5, including two games that ended early due to the run rule.

Madison Dobbins leads Georgia Tech with a .367 batting average, 29 hits and seven doubles, while Jin Sileo leads the team with eight stolen bases. Emma Kauf is hitting .347 with seven stolen bases, the same number as Ella Edgmon and Auburn Dupree.

The Yellow Jackets like to run and are 42 for 51 (82%) on the season.

Sara Beth Allen (seven home runs) and Mallorie Black (six) provide the pop for the Yellow Jackets' lineup.

As a team, Georgia Tech has an ERA of 4.09, which ranks 10th out of 14 ACC teams and has allowed 40 home runs (second most in ACC).

Chandler Dennis leads the team with 75 innings pitched. Dennis is 10-4 with a 3.92 ERA with 69 strikeouts and 44 walks. She has allowed 10 home runs.

Blake Neleman has thrown the second-most innings (71 ⅔ innings). She is 4-6 with a 3.91 ERA to go along with 94 strikeouts and 49 walks. She has also struggled with the long ball, allowing 18 home runs.

The Seminoles will be forced to earn whatever runs they can score, as the Yellow Jackets have committed just 15 errors, which ranks as the second fewest in the conference.
