Florida State stocked up at TE after landing transfer commitment from Shorter's Kyle Morlock

Tight end is no longer a significant need for the Florida State football program.

The Seminoles are stocked up at the position after landing verbal commitments from two of the top tight ends in the transfer portal – Jaheim Bell (South Carolina) and Kyle Morlock (Division II Shorter University) – this week.

Morlock, a towering player at 6-foot-7, 250 pounds, joined Bell in FSU’s 2023 transfer class after announcing his pledge via social media Thursday.

247Sports ranks Bell and Morlock as its No. 1 and No. 4 tight ends in the portal this cycle. The Seminoles’ three-player transfer class – which also includes defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. (Miami) – ranks No. 2 nationally, per 247Sports.

Analysis: What are Florida State's biggest needs as 45-day transfer portal frenzy begins?

As a 2020 high school recruit from Blairsville (Ga.) Union County, Morlock hardly garnered much attention from Division I programs. He then joined the Hawks and then recorded 57 catches for 890 yards and 11 touchdowns in 24 games across three seasons.

After Morlock put his name into the transfer portal on Nov. 22, he quickly landed scholarship offers from Power Five schools across the country. Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Auburn were among programs to enter the mix.

FSU hosted Morlock an unofficial visit for its home game against Florida last month and an official visit last weekend. On Wednesday, Seminole head coach Mike Norvell and tight ends coach Chris Thomsen had an in-home visit with Morlock.

With starting tight end Camren McDonald expiring his eligibility after this season, FSU needed to fill a void at tight end. Bell made his commitment to the Seminoles public Monday before Morlock followed suit.
