She is a past president of the American Academy of Osteopathy, and currently serves as a vice chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Review Committee.

“It is with immense pleasure that I join Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine as the dean for their new campus, and I look forward to building on BCOM’s already solid presence of osteopathic clinical training in Brevard County,” Newman said. “I am honored BCOM’s leadership has placed their trust in me, as they expand their mission of diversity and excellence in osteopathic medical training into my home state of Florida."

“With BCOM-Florida’s location on the campus of Florida Tech, our students will have access to the full four years of the highest-quality osteopathic medical training, as well as technology and research-focused opportunities," Newman said. "At the same time, the Brevard County community will enjoy immediate and long-term economic and health care benefits. BCOM is ‘doing it right,’ and I am so pleased to be able to contribute.”

Two of the nation’s leading institutions of higher education are working together to bring the Space Coast its first medical school. The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and Florida Tech entered into an affiliation agreement to establish a four-year osteopathic medical school on the university’s Melbourne campus.
